The George Washington University School of Media & Public Affairs

The School of Media & Public Affairs (SMPA) is an ideal college for young journalists who wish to pursue a career in political journalism. The school emphasizes the study and understanding of how journalism and media have influenced (and continue to influence) policy and politics in a democratic nation. Strategically located in Washington D.C., the school gives you the perfect opportunity to watch current events unfold, while at the same time witnessing how some of the top media companies in the nation report on it. The school gives you the chance to choose between two undergraduate programs: Journalism and Mass Communication or Political Communication. Their graduate programs offer in-depth studies on either Media and Strategic Communication or Global Communication. You can also pursue a graduate certificate in Documentary Filmmaking. SMPA also offers a unique opportunity for students to learn more about reporting on global affairs and diplomacy via their Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication. The Institute provides conferences and workshops featuring speakers from all over the world and giving students the chance to learn from individuals coming from a variety of different cultures and political backgrounds. Another valuable resource offered by SMPA is the Center for Innovative Media, which encourages students to learn more about the technology being used in media today, as well as contribute to the technology that will be used in the future.
